I’m SO excited to finally launch the Rhea Whitney Photography blog for so many reasons! I’m really looking forward to this new year and all that it has in store for RWP. And I really believe that having a blog will help to share more about me and what inspires me as a photographer!
Building my brand and business has been one of the most fun, exciting, exhilarating, scary yet humbling experiences to date. 2016 marks the 4th year I’ve been in business and I really never thought I’d be here – a full-time portrait and wedding photographer in DC! That’s pretty crazy! But deep in my heart, I now know that this is my calling and purpose in life. Photography or being a visual artist is my gift that God has given me to be used to help other people. And I’m so blessed to be able to live in my purpose/calling!!
SO – about Rhea! Well, I’m a Howard Alum that loves flowers, numbers, my mother’s home cooking, cute doggies, and my friends and family A LOT! I believe I have an outgoing personality, an upbeat spirit and an ability to connect with people well! I was a finance major in college and continued my studies in New York to become an accountant and because of my love of numbers, I was able to find my passion in photography!
When I learned that the basics of photography were numbers, I knew that this career was meant for me! I had always loved to take pictures, my entire life I always had a camera and was documenting special moments for my friends and family. I never considered myself a photographer per se mainly because I was photography in auto mode. My images were still good, composition wise, but documenting life’s moments was all I really loved to do. When I learned how to shoot manually, understanding ISO, aperture, white balance, and shutter speed, and learning that everything is a numbers scale, it clicked for me! Making sense of how to manipulate light, both available and added, was the basis of photography and I understood it.
I’ve been blessed to have captured SO many type of events/sessions/concerts since 2012 because they all helped me learned what I loved capturing and what I didn’t love so much. I learned quickly that having clients that had similar interests and personalities as I was what I was drawn to. There’s so much more to come for Rhea Whitney Photography, so stay tuned!! 🙂
