What I Know About Branding… And How You Benefit
I don’t claim to be an expert in areas that I know I’m not (like makeup or graphic design). I’m sure that’s like many of us, but as venture through this journey of entrepreneurship, there are a lot of learning and growing moments that show me that I know a lot more than I give myself credit for. Branding is surely one of those topics.
I remember the day I got rebranding help from the incredible Britney Jeanine like it was yesterday! She really focused on the key questions that made me think about myself and the way I wanted my brand to be represented – typical questions like “Who is your target audience? Where do they shop? What do they like to do on their free time?” and even more deep thought questions such as “What would your perfect couple wear to your photo shoot (from their hair all the way down to their shoes)? If your company was a bumper sticker, what would it say?” and more! The process she has to give facelifts to businesses such my own Rhea Whitney Photography is so genius. It just makes so much sense! In order to create a brand that you love, you have to create a feel for the brand. I now use her process to keep my brand consistent and personal!
And now, I want to share my best branding practices I’ve implemented over the years in my to open your mind and create consistency (which is KEY!).
A beautifully designed logo along with exact brand colors and typography is so important! Great graphic designers really enhance the final product of branding and the decision to hire a graphic designer is one of the first major investments I made in my business that I will never regret! But, a logo isn’t all that goes into branding. It’s also about the feel and key brand words you identify that portray your brand’s existence. Your logo and colors should easily display that for you.
I mean, DUH!!! I’m a photographer, so course I believe in the power of a great photo. But in real life, this still stands true. People read a book by its cover most of the time and that’s not a bad thing! We all gravitate toward what we like and great imagery behind that vision really sets the bar high and shows a true appreciation for your brand.
Never. Stop. Learning. We never know everything and there’s always room for improvement! Take courses, buy more gear, hire a Virtual Assistant, invest in a great graphic designer – I’m a firm believer that we can’t do it all, all the time so asking or hiring help is okay. Actually, it’s what’s BOSSES do!
SERIOUSLY!! There’s never a perfect time or a perfect situation because perfect doesn’t exist – and I personally am okay with it! Accept your flaws and live in your strengths. Be the BEST you, but know that “perfect” isn’t real.
Proper planning and preparation help in the long run!! Do your homework on the back end, so that when you show up to a gig or release a new website or brand, you know that you’ve done the best work you know how. Give it your all plus some! That’s all you can do!
I hope this was helpful to someone out there!! It can all feel so overwhelming at times, but PUSH THROUGH and know that you are destined for greatness! BEST OF LUCK!
